Reds goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic will replace defender Jon McKain as Adelaide United captain.
The club says the decision recognises Galekovic's ability to perform under pressure.
McKain was captain under coach Rini Coolen.
Coolen was sacked more than a week ago and was replaced by former coach John Kosmina.
The club says it will continue to support McKain as a player.
Galekovic was acting captain in Adelaide's two-all draw with Sydney last week.
The Reds are now preparing for Friday's game against Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium.
