Reporter:

Suspended FIFA vice-president Jack Warner has resigned, prompting a bribery inquiry into his conduct to be dropped.

ALI MOORE: FIFA, world soccer's ruling body, is mired in more controversy after the resignation of vice-president Jack Warner.

Mr Warner had been suspended after being accused of trying to bribe officials with bundles of cash.

FIFA says that investigation is now closed and the long-serving executive leaves with the presumption of innocence maintained.

DAVID DAVIES, FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATOR: This is typical of what's wrong with FIFA. The FIFA statement today talks of an assumption of innocence of Jack Warner when all these charges are effectively being dropped.

ALI MOORE: Critics say the newly-re-elected head of FIFA Sepp Blatter, must to do more to clean up the organisation after a series of corruption scandals.
