Australia is through to the quarter-finals of the women's soccer World Cup in Germany after beating Norway 2-1 in their final pool match.

The Matildas looked to be in trouble when Norway opened the scoring in the 56th minute.

Sydney FC forward Kyah Simon then scored a double to seal the win for Australia.

"We've worked so hard to get to where we are today," she said.

"All the preparation is paying off, but the job isn't finished yet. We've still got a few games to get to that end result, but we're just happy to be into the quarter finals."

Australia's opponent in the round of eight will be Sweden, which beat the United States two-one this morning to finish on top of Group C.
